Essential Snowmobile Gear & Safety Equipment – Get familiar with your sled, avalanche safety gear, and best practices for backcountry travel.

Your course includes hands-on instruction with an expert guide, specialized skills training, and the use of essential safety equipment. We can also provide a complete Avalanche Rescue Kit, including: Ortovox Backpack, Beacon (Transceiver), Probe, Shovel.

To participate in the course, you’ll need to bring the following required equipment. Some items (*) are available as demos if needed.
Required Equipment:
Snowmobile or Timbersled (Must have valid Colorado registration)
Helmet (DOT-rated)
Backpack* (Winter-specific)
Avalanche Transceiver* (Must be ≤ 5 years old, 3-antenna)
Avalanche Rescue Shovel* (Steel or aluminum)
Avalanche Probe* (Must have a pull-snaplock system and measurement markings)
Warm Layers & Clothing (Base layer, mid-layer, waterproof shell)
Two Pairs of Gloves (One for riding, one extra warm pair)
Goggles & Sunglasses (Light & dark lenses)
Lunch, Snacks & Water (~1L recommended)
Recommended Equipment (Optional but Encouraged):
FRS/Two-Way Radio (BCA Link, Rocky Talkie, Baofeng, etc.)
Handheld Compass & GPS Navigation Device (Garmin InReach, or phone apps like Caltopo, onX)
Basic First Aid Kit (Trauma & environmental emergency essentials)
Equipment Repair Kit (Basic repair tools)
Survival Kit (Firestarter, cordlette, knife, headlamp, bivouac, etc.)

We provide demos for some safety equipment, including a backpack, transceiver, avalanche shovel, and probe. Please let us know in advance if you need to borrow any of these items.

We understand that plans can change. Here’s our cancellation policy:
Full refund if you cancel at least 72 hours before the start date.
No refund if you cancel less than 72 hours before the course begins.
If Powder Pro Lab Ltd. cancels a course due to weather, lack of participants, or other unforeseen circumstances, you will be notified and issued a full refund or given the option to reschedule.

Backcountry conditions can be unpredictable. If we determine that conditions are unsafe, we may reschedule or cancel the course. If this happens, you’ll receive a full refund or the option to reschedule for another available date.
